Really, so you LOVE pizza, eh? Well, didn't you have to try pizza for the first time?
Scared? There is nothing else to be more scare of in this world than taking a bite of food you might (or might not) hate? That fear is enough to keep you from doing it?
It is utterly and completely irrational to me.
Now, I can understand if someone does not want to try bungee jumping. People can die. I get that. Taking a bite of a new food will not likely kill you (unless you have an allergy, in which case, do not try it). I have no desire whatsoever of bungee jumping or skydiving. I don't know that I would say I WON'T do it, but I really just have no desire to try it. It is really more of a meh thing for me. I can even see there would be a few things you refuse to try. Most things, though, I will try. There are a ton of foods I don't want to try (pretty much anything bug related) but I would
However, if I try something and do not like it, do NOT expect me to do it again. Ever. No amount of coercing or bribery will get me to do anything that I don't want to do. Come on, you know me better than that. Geez.
Today, this YOT Day 51, I am thankful for being open minded to try new things.
Honestly, there is not much I don't like. Actually, the things I don't like are items most people DO like. Meatloaf - I have never in my life had a taste of meatloaf I liked. Meatloaf is one of those American staples that people cannot understand disliking. someone ALWAYS says, "Oh, you haven't tried MY meatloaf" or "mine is different, you will love this one". No, I probably will not. Yes, I will try it though. Yes, your feelings will be hurt when I don't like it because it was your mom's recipe and everyone in the world has loved it for 50 years. Sorry.
Goulash is another one. There is absolutely no reason I should dislike either of these things; I like everything IN them, I just don't like it all put together.
Pot roast - no reason - just don't like it
Picnic salads - I call them that but it is macaroni salad, potato salad, you know, salads you take on picnics. There was ONE potato salad at Adam's Fairacre Farms in New York, I think it was German Potato salad. I liked that stuff. See? I tried it even though I hate potato salad and found ONE in the entire country that was good. Well, I say in the country, but it was German potato salad. Maybe they know what they are doing more than we do. With potatoes, anyway. (Man, that place was GREAT. I really need to find a farm market like that here. ) Again, I like the ingredients but not the mixture.
I will have to give my dad credit for this one (sorry mom!). He said that we did not have to eat anything we didn't like but we had to try it.
Side note here: I call bullshit on the first half this one, dad. Brussels sprouts? Liver? yuck. We literally gagged eating them, tears running down my eyes from the gagging, and still, he pushed. Lies. But, anyway, the second half of it was a good plan.
HAHAHAHAHA! BUT, my meatloaf is the best! You would love it. tee hee!
ReplyDeleteI always had my daughters do the same thing as your dad did to you. Two bite of "it" and your done. I told them one day they would go over to a boys house for dinner and his mom would make all the "its". They would either insult her or eat some of it. I also taught them how to move food around so it looks like they ate more than they did and are now stuffed. ☺ They both still try everything and remember to taste the new thing or the one they don't like first. Then follow it up with something yummy.
